Maran Shuttle Tankers (MST) is the shuttle tanker shipping unit of the Angelicoussis Group, a global leader in energy shipping with a proud history dating back to 1947.

About the role
Maran has an office in St. John’s Newfoundland, to manage the existing regional contracts. Maran provides shuttle tankers services for offshore crude oil loading and transportation from the offshore projects operating on the Grand Banks of Newfoundland and Labrador. The St. John’s division operates under MST (Atlantic) Shipping Management ULC.

The Junior Vessel Manager is a development role designed to build the technical, operational, and commercial understanding required to progress toward full vessel management responsibilities. Working under the guidance and supervision of an experienced Vessel Manager, the role will support the safe, reliable, sustainable, and cost-efficient operation of assigned vessels while developing practical experience in shuttle tanker management.

The Junior Vessel Manager will assist the Vessel Manager and ship teams with day-to-day vessel follow-up, technical coordination, performance monitoring, and communication between the vessels, office, customers, and support functions. The position combines hands-on support, structured learning, and job shadowing, with increasing responsibility as capability and experience develop.

This opportunity is intended for a recent graduate or early-career professional with a relevant marine or technical background who is motivated to develop into a Vessel Manager role over time however, other candidates may be considered depending on qualifications and experience.

Duties and responsibilities
Working under the guidance of the Vessel Manager, some of the areas you will support include:

  • Treat safety and environmental compliance as a top priority.

  • Support the safe and efficient operation of assigned shuttle tankers in accordance with internal and external requirements.

  • Develop effective working relationships and communication with vessel staff, office support functions, customers, and other relevant internal and external stakeholders.

  • Assist with planning, coordination, documentation, and follow-up of technical maintenance, inspections, dry-dockings, major repairs, and vessel performance activities.

  • Contribute to financial follow-up, including budget input, forecasting, cost monitoring, and reporting.

  • Support HSEQ initiatives, improvement actions, and follow-up activities in cooperation with relevant support functions.

  • Participate in incident reviews, investigations, and corrective action follow-up, while learning the company’s approach to safety, risk management, and continuous improvement.

  • Participate as a member of the Emergency Response Team as training and competence develop.

Job requirements

Qualifications

  • Mechanical or electrical engineering or marine engineering background.

  • Recent graduates are welcome to apply.

  • Proficiency in written and oral English.
